Jacobi Papers Indexing

The eminent Israeli genealogist Paul Jacobi bequeathed to the Jewish National and University Library some 400 genealogical studies which he had conducted, mainly on Germanic rabbinical lineages. 110 of these are fully developed family monographs in type-written form, which have been partially indexed. About 300 are less developed researches in hand-written form and are not indexed. The present project seeks to produce a scientific, annotated name-index of all the studies, providing extensive cross-references and notes on the sources employed, both primary and secondary. The purpose is to reveal for researchers the wealth of genealogical material on the families which Dr. Jacobi researched in great and meticulous detail. The entire name-index with its scientific apparatus will be published in print form, while the data-base contained therein will also be made available on the Internet and/or CD's. Some of the monographs may be published while the indexing of the complete collection is still in progress. The Project Director is Dr. Chanan Rapaport, an executor of the Jacobi estate.
