This project, dealing specifically with standards for recording proper names, dates
and places, was undertaken by Gary Mokotoff.
Initially (in the first half of 2007), Mokotoff endeavored to work with a team of
well-known experts who, it transpired, lacked the cohesiveness and will to engage
in a collaborative venture, aimed at elaborating a common standard for genealogy
in general. Mokotoff therefore elected to pursue the project on his own, seeking
advice and assistance as required.
In the summer of 2008, he produced a Proposed Standard
for Names, Dates and Places in a Genealogical Database. This proposal
was reviewed by more than ten specialists who offered comments on the draft work
as it progressed (without necessarily endorsing the standard as a whole).
